Caltrans District #1 and #2 in Northern California

Back to Main Page

Monitoring Caltrans in Northern California is pretty easy! For now everybody seems to be using the lowband VHF system in Districts 1 and 2. However the new statewide 800Mhz system (non-trunked) is in place and should start to be implemented. Be sure to have both Low Band and 800 freqs plugged into your Caltrans bank. In the Bay Area, they have trunked systems but I will not post details here - I don't cover that area.

Traffic you will here up here is great and very worthy in the winter!!! Roadblocks and winter travelling conditions are plentiful info on the freqs below. Monitor them when you travel or have family travelling or when you just wanna know if it's snowing on some mountain pk.

District #2 covers all the counties of Shasta, Tehama, Trinity, Lassen, Plumas, Modoc and Siskiyou. It is dispatched out of the Redding office. CHP Redding does normal dispatch and there is a base station at the Caltrans shop in Redding too. District #1 covers all the counties of Humboldt,Del Norte,Mendocino,Lake, and part of Trinity; also dispatched out of Eureka CHP.

To use the info below, the 800Mhz system uses Letters for designators and the lowband uses numbers for channel designators. I have labeled each channel. The 2nd column has the actual channel usage for each district and the proposed 800 system channels as well. The 3rd and 4th colum are unit designators and assignments.
