Paradise is an interesting town to monitor. I was born and raised here till age 7, then moved to Red Bluff where I am now. However I have relatives there and I monitor the town often. Now, a good friend of mine is a radio nut for the town and he has some good input too. Paradise PD is an odd department on the radio. There are times where you can have radio silence for an hour at a time when nothing is going on. Some good chitchat on Channel 6. The PD radio system is a voter system with various receivers and txmitters scattered throughout the hills. The town is mainly full of retired citizens.
The fire department is a simple department to monitor. Most inside calls are medical or traffic collisions. If there is any fire, CDF is likely to respond automatic aid. There are three stations, Station 1 being downtown next to the PD. Station 2 is south town area and usually responds with CDF on calls south of the city. Station 3 is on Wagstaff in the northern end of town.
To finish off the oddity of Paradise, they have a very large disaster volunteer service. Somehow the city believes they need a large disaster services group. They tend to panic when a large fire looms off in the distance 20 miles away. Granted, with the entire town nestled in 100ft pine trees and steep canyons all around it, it sounds like Paradise, until Fire Season comes. That town sweats bullets when any smell of smoke blows through. Listen for the Disaster Team on CLEMARS at times. The town seems to panic worse than CNN does.
