Chico City Radio Info

Chico Police Dept is a pretty busy department. Having a State University doesn't help in keeping the city calm on a Friday night. I don't monitor the city as much and I'm not down there normally unless passing through to Paradise or visiting friends at Chico State. Holloween and St Patricks Day are the two nightmares of Chico's party scene. All day street parties (and all night) provide non-stop radio traffic as Chico PD, and the additional officers from nearby communities help patrol the streets. Monitor mutual aid freqs at all times during these incidents. Their channel 2 is also Public Works during the day but at night it turns into PD traffic for the evening.

The Fire Department has grown since I've last monitored them. I still don't know why they decided to go UHF when everything else is VHF in the area. They just did get a VHF mobile extendor. I have not monitored CDF and Chico Fire do a joint fire but I'm sure Chico Fire holds 2 radios per unit so they are compatible with CDF's system. They recently built a new Fire Station 5 right across the Elks Lodge in eastern Chico. Station 6 is also a new station, putting an engine in the growing northwest area of Chico, and allowing access west of the tracks incase a train hinders access across tracks.
